ImageSmart Solutions

Sharp Open Systems Architecture (OSA) allows network applications to control the MFP through bi-directional communication. This allows users to interact with business applications directly from the front panel of the MFP. This means increased benefits from investment already made in e-mail systems, Microsoft Active Directory, security system etc and a faster return on any future investments such as Document Management or “Pull Print” solutions. The result is a truly customizable MFD that can be designed to meet virtually any business need.

This flexibility transforms your Sharp MFP into a resource designed to evolve with your business. With an integrated Sharp MFD you can start and finish a task directly at the MFP, no need to return to your desktop which can drastically reduce your ordinary document workflow and increase efficiency.

Sharp OSA is a client/server-based architecture that allows network applications to communicate with the MFP and control MFP functions and operation panel screens. All applications continue to run on your network server.

Inherent in Sharp OSA's web service architecture are certain advantages:

Low cost Implementation
Multiple MFPs talk to the same application, minimizing any IT management overhead and enabling centralised administration .

Resource efficiency
Application takes full advantage of server processing power and storage capabilities.

Interoperability
Web Services is the standard for application to application communication.

Enhanced security, Easy Access, improved productivity,
Network login or ID entry at the device allows instant authentication to access the full power of the Sharp MFP without having to continually re-enter credentials for their allowed copying, scanning, faxing or email services.
Authentication can be made easier and faster utilising an existing security card.

Pull Printing
Pull Printing increases mobility and productivity by freeing users to output documents at the MFP of their choice – across servers, departments and even geographic boundaries. Secure document release protects confidential information by assuring jobs are printed only by the appropriate user when they are physically at the device.

Benefits of embedded cost management
  • Simplify tracking and management of prints, copies, scans and faxes.
  • Promote user mobility, convenience and productivity.
  • Print documents securely to networked Sharp MFPs.
  • Manage total output volumes and eliminate waste.

Complete and accurate cost management.
The cost management software captures all MFP job attributes to simplify and automate the charging of variable rates based on document features. Paper size and use of colour or black and white – for both copies and prints – can be detected on a page-by-page basis for accurate usage reporting and allocation to correct account codes for individuals, departments or other funding sources.

Simplified IT
  • No terminals to install or support
  • No additional IP addresses or network drops
  • Centralises device management and control

Integrated Document Management
Pull Printing increases mobility and productivity by freeing users to output documents at the MFP of their choice – across servers, departments and even geographic boundaries. Secure document release protects confidential information by assuring jobs are printed only by the appropriate user when they are physically at the device.

The workflow application for Sharp OSA enabled devices provides for seamless connection to network applications via the MFD. Through the use of this centralised workflow management system, Sharp devices can deliver scanned documents directly into business workflows as well as send documents to other destinations such as email, fax servers, shared network drives, home directories and document management systems. This allows end users to;
  • Scan directly from the Sharp MFDs to workflow or Document Management systems such as Hummingbird, Documentum, FileNet, Interwoven etc.
  • Enter index data (metadata) at the device panel.
  • Scan once and deliver to multiple destinations.
  • Access personal workflows based on the logged in user – with a press of a button on the Sharp device panel.
  • Enhance scanned image quality with up to 2 dozen filters.
  • Read barcodes and handwriting.
  • Perform Bates numbering.
  • Convert scanned documents into searchable PDF, WORD, EXCEL – and more formats.
  • Enter index data (metadata) at the device panel.

Sharp MFP in Action
  • Administrator sets up the workflows centrally.
  • User places a document in the Sharp MFP feeder and enters his/her network password on the device panel.
  • Once authenticated, the user is presented with all the document handling workflow options that he/she is authorized to use.
  • The user selects the desired workflow option and presses Scan.
  • It's done!

Within seconds, the digitized document can be retrieved from email, fax, network folders, PC’s, or even document management systems. No user training required!
